How much will your therapy cost?

  • $30 (inc. GST) per session for ACC-covered injuries
  • $75 (inc. GST) per session for non-ACC injuries and private appointments

ACC covered injuries are subsidised. You’ll pay a surcharge and we will lodge a claim for you. For non-ACC injuries you must pay the full treatment cost.

Your APM Physiotherapist can let you know if your injury is covered by ACC and lodge the required claims.

Your appointment

Appointments take up to 30 minutes and typically consist of:

  • Your therapist asking questions to understand your injury, pain or discomfort
  • A physical assessment to understand the cause of the issue and help provide a diagnosis
  • Treatment and education
  • A tailored recovery and prevention plan, with recommendations for further actions

As part of your treatment and recovery, your physiotherapist will provide ways to manage your pain and discomfort and some education on preventing and managing any ongoing symptoms.

Some APM physiotherapists have additional experience in the treatment and support of specific issues, such as pelvic health or disordered breathing.

What happens in a physio appointment?

Your first appointment is an initial consultation to get as much information as possible about your pain, injury and physiotherapy needs.

Appointments take up to 30 minutes. It is best to arrive 10 minutes early for your first appointment to complete any paperwork.

If you have more than one injury, let your physiotherapist know at the start of your first session.

Follow-up appointments take up to 30 minutes, and your therapist will talk to you about whether this is required.

Does physiotherapy really work?

Yes, physiotherapy really works. We use evidence-based practices to help with the treatment and prevent of pain and injuries.

How do I know if I need physiotherapy?

What can I expect at my first physio appointment?
  • Initial assessment – your physiotherapist will ask you questions about your pain or injury.

  • Examine and test – your physiotherapist will examine the affected areas and test your movement, nerves and strength.

  • Discuss treatment – your physiotherapist will share their findings and provide treatment options and ways to manage your pain or injury.

  • Make a plan – your physiotherapist will work with you to plan ongoing treatment or injury management, answer questions and address concerns.

If you have more than one injury, make sure to let your physiotherapist know at the start of your first session.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Comfortable, loose clothing that doesn't restrict movement and allows access to the site of your injury.

How long will my appointment be?

Each appointment can last up to 30 minutes.

Your first session is a consultation to find out more about you and your injury/condition.

This session determines an appropriate treatment plan and shapes further sessions.

Can I request a male or female physio?

We try our best to accommodate all requests.

How much will my appointment cost?

$75 for injuries not covered by ACC or $30 for injuries covered by ACC.

How do I pay for my appointment?

In-person appointments: payments are made via EFTPOS. We accept all major credit cards (including American Express).

Online appointments: you'll receive an invoice following your appointment, which you can pay online or by bank transfer.

Do I need a GP or specialist referral?

No, you can make an appointment directly with our APM Physiotherapy team by calling 0800 967 522. You do not need a GP referral.

What should I bring to my physio appointment?

For ACC covered injuries, you'll need your claim number and injury date. If you have notes, scans or medical records relating to your injury, we recommend you bring these to your first appointment.
